OL2002: "Could Not Sign or Encrypt" Error Message After You Upgrade from Outlook 2000 (325352)

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade from Outlook 2000 to Outlook 2002, when you try to send a message, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
Microsoft Outlook could not sign or encrypt this message because you have no certificates which can be used to send from your e-mail address.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if the setting to encrypt messages and attachments has been turned on.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Start Microsoft Outlook.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. Click the Security tab, click to clear the Encrypt contents and attachments for outgoing messages check box, and then click OK.
