Custom Outlook Profile May Be Ignored If Multiple Office XP Products Are Installed (325200)

SYMPTOMS

A custom Microsoft Outlook MAPI profile may not be applied when all the following conditions are true:
  • Multiple Microsoft Office XP products are installed.
  • The product that installed Microsoft Outlook 2002 was installed with a Custom Installation Wizard (CIW) transform that applies a custom MAPI profile.
  • Another Office XP product ran before the one that installed Outlook 2002.
Example scenario:

Assume that Microsoft Publisher 2002 and Microsoft Office XP Standard were installed on the same computer and that the Office XP installation included a CIW transform that contained a custom Outlook MAPI profile.

If Publisher ran before any member program of the Microsoft Office XP Standard suite, Outlook 2002 would fail to use the custom MAPI profile.

However if any member program of the Office XP Standard suite ran first, Outlook 2002 would use the custom MAPI profile.

CAUSE

When an Office XP product runs for the first time, certain user data is written that is common to all Office XP products. Outlook 2002 will only load CIW content such as the custom MAPI profile if this common user data is not present. Otherwise the Outlook Startup Wizard runs and prompts the user to provide the information that is necessary to configure a MAPI profile.

RESOLUTION

Service Pack Information

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Office XP Service Pack 3.

MORE INFORMATION

For the hotfix to have an affect, a registry key must be written. Without the registry key, this hotfix has no effect.

If it does not yet exist, create the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Setup

Add a DWORD value that is named OutlookUserData with a data value of 1.
