SYMPTOMS

When you try to play a virtual tour in Links 2001, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
This course is not compatible with the saved game file.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the name of the course contains too many characters in the course registry key.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, edit the name of the course in the registry key. To do this, follow these steps.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Locate the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Links2001\Crz

  4. Click each course folder, and then examine the course names in the Name list in the right pane.

    If a course name contains more than 32 characters, right-click the name of the value, and then click Rename.
  5. Type a new name that contains 32 or fewer characters, and then press ENTER.
  6. Close the Registry Editor.
