CAUSE
This behavior may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:
- A Word document is corrupted.
- A Word Settings (9) file is corrupted.
- A preference file is corrupted.
- An extension file is corrupted.
NOTE: This behavior may occur during an upgrade from Mac OS 8.5 to Mac OS 8.6.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Start Word, and then open a new document. Perform a copy and paste operation, and then print the document.
This will determine whether the issue occurs only because of a corrupted Word document, or because of a system file. If the issue still occurs in the new document, continue with the following steps. - Quit Word, and then from the Finder, open the following folder:
Hard disk:System Folder:Preferences:Microsoft
- Drag the Word Settings (9) file to the desktop, near the Trash.
- Start Word from the Office 2001 folder, and then determine whether the issue is resolved (perform a copy and paste operation, and then print the document). If the issue is not resolved, continue with the following steps.
- From the Finder, open the following folder:
Hard disk:System Folder:Extensions - Drag the following files from the System Folder:Extensions folder to the desktop, near the Trash.
- Microsoft Component Library
- Microsoft OLE Automation
- Microsoft OLE Library
- Microsoft Structured Storage
- Microsoft Internet Library
- From the Finder, open the following folder:
Hard disk:System Folder:Preferences
- Drag the following files from the System Folder:Preferences folder to the desktop, near the Trash.

- Start Word from the Office 2001 folder, and then determine whether the issue is resolved (perform a copy and paste operation, and then print the document).
