OL2000: (IMO) The IMAP Password Is Not Retained in the Same Outlook Session (319238)

Base: 257824 OL2000: Differences Between Outlook and Outlook Express SYMPTOMS If you click Send/Receive in Outlook 2000, you receive a prompt to enter you password
although you have already entered this information during a Microsoft Outlook
session. CAUSE This problem occurs if all the following are true:
- Outlook 2000 is configured in Internet Mode Only (IMO)
mode.
- You are using an Internet Messaging Access Protocol (IMAP)
server for messages.
- You cleared the Remember Password check box when you configured your e-mail account in Microsoft
Outlook.
RESOLUTION To resolve this problem, obtain the latest
service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the

- Install the Office 2000 SR-1 update if it is not currently
installed. To download and install the SR-1 Update, click the following
Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

- Install the hotfix described in this article. The English
version of this fix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the
following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated
universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to
local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

Administrative Information If you are updating an administrative installation with the
administrative version of the fix, use the following information to update the
administrative installation and network clients. How to Update Administrative Installations To update an administrative installation, use a command line
similar to the following
msiexec /a Admin Path\MSI File /p MSP path
SHORTFILENAMES=1
where Admin Path is the path to your
administrative installation point for Microsoft Office 2000 (for example,
C:\Office2000), where MSI File is the MSI
database package for the Office 2000 product (for example, Data1.msi),
and where MSP path is the path to the
administrative update for the fix (for example,
c:\hotfixfiles\Outlook_admin.msp). How to Update Network Clients After you complete the administrative installation of the fix,
update each network client. To deploy the update to the client workstations,
use a command line similar to the following
msiexec /i Admin Path\MSI File REINSTALL=OUTLOOKFiles,OUTLOOKNonBootFiles
REINSTALLMODE=vomus
where Admin Path is the path to your
administrative installation point for Office 2000 (for example, C:\Office2000),
and where MSI File is the MSI database
package for the Office 2000 product (for example, Data1.msi). STATUSMicrosoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in
Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3).
