SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Visio 2002 Service Release 1 (SR-1), when you use an Input Method Editor (IME) to enter Japanese characters in your Visio drawing, you may find that you cannot enter double-byte character set (DBCS) space characters. For example, when you press SPACEBAR, nothing happens. The space character is not inserted as expected.

Additionally, if you use the RIGHT ARROW or LEFT ARROW key to move the insertion point along the character string in your drawing, you cannot move the insertion point after it reaches the location where you tried to insert the double-byte space character.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:
  • You use the English version of Microsoft Visio Standard 2002 SR-1 or Microsoft Visio Professional 2002 SR-1.

NOTE: The behavior described in the "Symptoms" section of this article is limited to the English version of Visio 2002 SR-1. All other localized versions of Visio 2002 SR-1 do not exhibit this issue.
