Memory Stick or PC CARD Is Not Visible in the My Computer Information - Hardware Pane in Windows XP (318623)

SYMPTOMS

Under the following conditions, your removable media drive such as a Memory Stick or PC CARD may not be visible:
  1. You previously installed the hotfix from Q305096.
  2. Your Windows XP-based computer has removable media devices such as a Memory Stick or PC CARD device.
  3. You completed the following steps to view hardware information about your computer:
    1. Click Start, and then click Help and Support.
    2. Click Use Tools to view your computer information and diagnose problems, and then click My Computer Information.
    3. Click Find information about the hardware installed on this computer.
Your removable media devices may not appear in the My Computer Information - Hardware pane.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows XP service pack that contains this hotfix.
