SYMPTOMS

When you use Windows Explorer to view the size of a file that is larger than 4 gigabytes (GB), the file size may appear to be zero.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

To reproduce this problem, you must have a file that is larger than 4 GB, and then complete the following steps:
  1. Double-click My Network Places, and then double-click Add Network Place.
  2. Type the network share name that contains the file that is larger than 4 GB, click Next, and then click Finish.
  3. In My Network Places, double-click the network share you just created in step 2.
  4. Click the file that is larger than 4 GB, and note that it appears as a zero-byte file in the Status bar.
