SYMPTOMS

If you change the language that is used in menus and dialogs on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer that has the Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI) installed, when you next log on to the computer, some display properties are reset to their defaults. For example, the desktop background color and the fonts are reset to their default settings.

CAUSE

When you change the language, some display properties are reset to their default settings so that new fonts and user interface items can be added.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, log off the computer, log back on to the computer, and then reapply the display properties that you want.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

To change the display properties, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Display, and then click the Appearance tab.
  3. Change the display properties that you want to change by selecting items in the Windows and buttons, Color scheme, and Font size lists.
  4. Click the Themes tab or the Desktop tab to change other display properties.
  5. Click OK.
