  • Microsoft Data Analyzer 2002

This article was previously published under Q318073

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft has released the Microsoft Data Analyzer Evaluation Version International Update. The update addresses the following issues that occur when Microsoft Data Analyzer runs on international operating systems or on U.S. English operating systems with non-standard regional and language settings:

  • Data Analyzer stops responding.
  • Data Analyzer does not open a saved view.
  • Data Analyzer displays incorrect or unexpected results.

CAUSE

Throughout Microsoft Data Analyzer, information is converted among various formats. In some instances, Data Analyzer uses existing regional options, but in other instances, Data Analyzer expects or produces information in U.S. English regional format. This leads to incorrect data flow.

NOTE: This update addresses specific issues only where one or more of the following apply:
  • The operating system is a language version other than U.S. English.
  • The language setting in Regional Options (or Regional Settings) is set to a language other than U.S. English.
  • A non-standard decimal symbol or digit grouping symbol is selected in Regional Options (or Regional Settings). For example, a comma is selected as the decimal symbol for U.S. English, or a period is selected as the decimal symbol for Swedish.

RESOLUTION

You can download the update from the following Microsoft Web site: The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in the Microsoft Data Analyzer Evaluation Version International Update.

MORE INFORMATION

To determine if the International Update is installed, look for version number 3.5.218. To do this, click About Microsoft Data Analyzer on the Help menu.

To determine if you have Data Analyzer Evaluation version, click About Microsoft Data Analyzer on the Help menu. The title bar of the About window will contain Microsoft Data Analyzer - Evaluation license - # day(s) remaining, where # is the number of days before the Evaluation license will expire.

If you try to install the non-Evaluation version of the International Update, and you are using Data Analyzer Evaluation version, you will receive the following message:

The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.

The following international issues are not addressed in this update:
  • On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 98, if you change the decimal symbol to something other than the default regional setting, a message appears when Microsoft Data Analyzer starts, and then Data Analyzer quits. If you change the decimal symbol to something other than the default regional settings while Data Analyzer is running, the color scale is incorrect.
  • Some Data Analyzer components are not Unicode compatible. These components show information that uses the correct language only if the corresponding code page is assigned on the computer.
  • The Drill Through dialog box does not respect regional settings in both numeric and date-time categories.
  • The Filter by Criteria dialog box and the Template Measure Editor dialog box require input in the U.S. English regional format, regardless of the computer's existing regional format.
  • In the Max3API programming library that is included with Data Analyzer, the SmartSelectByName, SmartSelectByProperty and the SmartSelectByQuality methods require quotation marks around numeric arguments in the U.S. English regional format, regardless of the computer's existing regional settings.
