MOM Active Directory Scripts May Stop Responding (317724)

The Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2000 scripts that are in the "Microsoft Windows 2000 Active Directory" processing rules group may stop responding (hang). This can cause multiple instances of the OnePoint service to be generated. When this occurs, no events are collected.
CAUSE
Many of the Active Directory-related scripts retrieve domain controller information from remote computers by using directory service functions (such as DsGetDcName). Under some rare circumstances, these directory service functions may hang. When one of these scripts hangs, it is not possible to stop the corresponding OnePoint service. Any attempt to restart the OnePoint service (such as the "Bounce Data Access Server" processing rule) causes a duplicate instance of the service.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, follow the instructions that are included in the "Resolution" section of the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
