This article explains what is and what is not necessary for Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 (MOM) to identify computers for installation of the MOM agent.

In a Microsoft Windows 2000-based domain that is running in native mode, NetBIOS name resolution by either Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) or LMHOST files is not required.

To make sure that you have all the functionality to identify computers to install the MOM agent, make sure that the following conditions are true:
  • The Windows 2000-based domain is running in native mode.
  • Every computer has the correct domain suffix entries in the TCP/IP advanced properties.
  • Permit NetBIOS name resolution over TCP/IP over the network. This permits NetBIOS name resolution in DNS (Domain Name System).
