CAUSE
This behavior occurs because your antivirus software is not operating correctly and prevents the Exchange 2000 Server Information Store service from starting.
WORKAROUNDWARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve
problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk.
To work around this behavior, prevent the antivirus software from performing virus scanning operations on the Exchange 2000 Server Information Store service. To do this, you can change the following value in the registry to disable the scanning operations on the Exchange 2000 Server Information Store service.
- Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
- Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\VirusScan - In the right pane, click Enabled.
- On the Edit menu, click Modify.
- In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, type 0 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
- On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.
- Start the Exchange 2000 Server Information Store service.
