XCCC: Accessing Virtual Directory with a Period in the name Causes HTTP 404 Error Message (315876)

SYMPTOMS

If you use Exchange System Manager to create a virtual directory with a name that contains a period (.) and try to access that virtual directory with a Web browser, you may receive an error message that is similar to:
404 - File not found
This issue typically occurs if you try to create a hosting environment and you try to create virtual directories for multiple companies in the following format:

http://www.hostingcompany.com/CompanyA.com,
http://www.hostingcompany.com/CompanyB.com,

You can gain access to mailboxes but you cannot use all of the functionality in the mailboxes. For example, you can log on to the mailbox, but you cannot open items or check names in the address lists.
