When a session cookie is required to use a HyperText Markup Language (HTML) page, the session cookie may be lost if a child window is opened with the Window.Open scripting function and then closed by the user.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the session count is not properly maintained for the FILE:// URL usage.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
