Channel.CreateChannel() Links to Parent Rights and Does Not Have Its Own Rights (315227)

The information in this article applies to:

  • NCompass Resolution 4.0

This article was previously published under Q315227

SYMPTOMS

When you call the Resolution application programming interface (API) Channel.CreateChannel() method, the parent channel rights are not copied to the child. Instead, you see a link to the rights of the parent channel. When the parent channel rights are changed, the child channel rights are also changed.

CAUSE

When you invoke the Channel.CreateChannel method from a script, the method is linked to the assigned rights of the parent channel. It does not inherit the rights like the Site Builder does when you create new channels.

When you assign rights to a channel, you have the option to propagate rights to all children. Because the child channels do not have any rights of their own, and are linked to the parent, any changes to the parent are reflected in all child channels that are created with this API.
