SYMPTOMS

When you save a multilayered three-dimensional Microsoft Visio image as a Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) file, the three-dimensional portions of the original Visio image are missing from the JPEG image.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the JPEG format cannot handle multilayered images. As a result, only the transparent background images of these shapes are saved.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, export the drawing to a program that can handle multilayered images (for example, Microsoft PhotoDraw or Adobe Photoshop). To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Visio.
  2. On the File menu, click Save As.
  3. In the Save as type box, select the appropriate file type for your alternate drawing program.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Open the image file in the alternate drawing program whose file type you selected in step 3.
