PRB: Exchange SDK WebDAV Sample Makes Subfolders Unaccessible (315200)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) sample that is included with the December 2001 version of the Exchange 2000 Server software development kit (SDK), if you move or copy an item to a subfolder, the subfolder is no longer accessible to Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) or Microsoft Outlook.

CAUSE

You omitted the name of the item from the URL in the Destination text box, which replaces the target folder with the item.

RESOLUTION

Include the item name in the URL in the Destination text box. See the "More Information" section for an example.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Create an e-mail message named MoveTest in your Inbox.
  2. Create a subfolder named MoveToTest in your Inbox.
  3. Open the WebDAV sample and list the contents of your Inbox (http://MyServer/Exchange/MyName/Inbox).
  4. Click List Properties.
  5. Confirm the presence of the MoveTest.eml item and the MoveToTest folder.
  6. In the Target text box, enter the URL of the MoveTest.eml item (http://MyServer/Exchange/MyName/Inbox.MoveTest.eml).
  7. In the Destination text box, enter the URL of the MoveToTest folder (http://MyServer/Exchange/MyName/Inbox/MoveToTest/).
  8. Click Move Resource.
  9. Open or refresh your mail client (OWA).
  10. The MoveToTest folder is no longer accessible. If you access your Inbox from Windows Explorer, you see the MoveTest e-mail but do not see the MoveToTest folder.
You see the same results when you use the Copy function.

To prevent the problem, in step 7, include the item name in the URL (http://MyServer/Exchange/MyName/Inbox/MoveToTest/MoveTest.eml).
