This step-by-step article describes procedures to delete messages from queues in two ways: to delete all messages, or to delete selected messages.

Note that deleting messages from a queue permanently removes the messages from the messaging system.

Delete All Messages from Queues

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. Enumerate the messages in the queue.
  3. Right-click the queue, and then click one of the following options:
    • Click Delete All Messages (No NDR) to delete all messages from the queue without sending a nondelivery report to the senders.
    • Click Delete All Messages (Send NDR) to delete all messages from the queue and send a nondelivery report to the senders of the messages.
  4. When you are prompted, click Yes.

Selectively Delete Messages from Queues

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. Enumerate the messages in the queue.
  3. Right-click the message or messages that you want to delete, and then click one of the following options:
    • Click Delete Message (No NDR) to delete selected messages from the queue without sending a nondelivery report to the senders.
    • Click Delete Message (Send NDR) to delete selected messages from the queue and send a nondelivery report to the senders of the messages.
  4. When you are prompted, click Yes.
