Text Input May Be Slow If You Use the Japanese Input Method Editor (314312)

SYMPTOMS

If you use the Japanese Input Method Editor (IME) to type Japanese text in a text area that is embedded in a table, it may take a long time for the characters to be displayed on the screen.

CAUSE

The delay occurs because the Microsoft HTML Object Library (Mshtml.dll) code attempts to update all of the tables on the page instead of updating only the table that contains the text area.

RESOLUTION

Internet Explorer 6

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Internet Explorer 6. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1.

To make sure that you are protected with the latest security patch and that you are using the hotfix that is described in this article:
  1. Install the hotfix that is described in this article. Do not restart your computer when you receive the prompt.
  2. Install the latest security patch. For more information, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

  3. Restart the computer.
It is important to install the two patches in the order of these steps.

If the latest security patch is already applied to the computer then follow these steps to install the hotfix and to remain at the current security patch level:
  1. Download the latest critical update for Internet Explorer. To do so, visit the following Microsoft Web site. When you receive the prompt to open or save the executable, select Save As, and then save the file to your local computer.

  2. Install the hotfix that is documented in the present article. To do so, at a command prompt type:

    Q314312.EXE /N:V /R:N

  3. Re-install the security update that you downloaded in step 1. To do so, at a command prompt type:

    Qxxxxxx.EXE /N:V

    where Qxxxxxx is the article documenting the latest Security Patch.
  4. Restart the computer.
