Money: "Please Make Sure You Have 4,095 MB Free on Drive C" Error Message When You Try to Install Money (313999)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install Microsoft Money, you receive an error message similar to the following:
Microsoft Money 2002 cannot be installed. Please make sure you have 4,095 MB free on drive C: and then try to install again.
As a result, Setup does not complete successfully and you are unable to install Money. You may receive this error message even if there is sufficient space available on your computer's hard disk.

CAUSE

Money Setup does not handle situations in which negative disk space is reported.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Quit all programs that are running on your computer, including any virus-protection programs.
  2. Insert your Microsoft Money CD-ROM into your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key as you insert the CD-ROM to prevent it from running automatically.
  3. Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
  4. Right-click your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then click Explore.
  5. Do one of the following, as appropriate to your operating system:
    • If you are running Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition (SE), or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), double-click Msiw9x.exe.

      Click OK when you receive the "Windows Installer Setup completed successfully" message.

      -or-
    • If you are running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Microsoft Windows 2000, or Microsoft Windows XP, double-click Msint4.exe.

      Click OK when you receive the "Windows Installer Setup completed successfully" message.
  6. Double-click Syspack.msi.

    On the Money needs to update some system files before proceeding page that appears, click Next.

    On the You're done! page, click Finish.
  7. Double-click Setup.exe to run Setup, and then follow the instructions on the screen to install Money.
