Cannot Bind to LDAP in Content Management Server (313856)

SYMPTOMS

When a user tries to browse to the domain for containers to add, if the Active Directory LDAP option is enabled (under Server Configuration Application on the Access tab), the user receives the following error message:

Fail to Bind to Active Directory Domain

CAUSE

When Content Management Server (CMS) binds to an Active Directory Service (ADS) object, CMS only searches objects under the domain forest where the CMS server resides. If the CMS domain resides outside of the domain forest where the ADS Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) domain is located, CMS does not recognize that the domain is an external domain in another domain forest. Therefore, CMS cannot bind to any of the objects in the ADS LDAP domain such as the user container.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Content Management Server 2001. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
