SYMPTOMS

When you print a document to your HP LaserJet 4si printer from Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP, the following behaviors may occur:
  • The document may require more page space than when you print the same document to the same printer from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.

For example, when you print the document to the HP LaserJet 4si printer from Windows NT 4.0, the document may successfully print on one page. However, when you print the same document to the same printer from Windows 2000 or Windows XP, the document may require two pages to print.
  • The top margin may be printed about 7mm lower than when you print the same document from Windows NT 4.0.
This issue occurs when you use A4 paper size to print.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows XP printer drivers for the HP LaserJet 4si printer incorrectly set the A4 paper size PrintableArea and CursorOrigin settings.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, install the Windows NT 4.0 printer driver for the HP LaserJet 4si printer from the \Printers\NT4\I386 folder on the Windows NT 4.0 CD.
