SMTP Filter Becomes Unstable When You Use Space in Keyword Name or Attachment Name (313344)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000

This article was previously published under Q313344

SYMPTOMS

You may see the following problem with the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) filter's user interface (UI) in Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server. The SMTP filter user interface may become inaccessible or unusable if a space character (=" ") is used to define an attachment name or a keyword. For example, this issue can occur in the following situation:
  • In ISA Management, you open the Extensions > Applications node and view the properties of the SMTP filter.
  • On the Attachments tab or the Keywords tab, you add an attachment rule with the following attachment name:

    = " "

  • You click OK twice.
  • You reopen the filter UI.

There is a red X and nothing can be configured from now.
The same issue occurs if you use a space as a keyword value to define a keyword. If you then reopen the SMTP filter UI, an access violation occurs in SMTPfadm.dll.

RESOLUTION

This problem was corrected in Internet Security and Acceleration Server Service Pack 1.
