XCCC: Designating Sites as Local Sites in the MCU Properties in a Failover Scenario (312907)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server

This article was previously published under Q312907

SUMMARY

This article provides information about designating sites as "local" sites in the Multipoint Control Unit (MCU) properties and still providing failover functionality.

MORE INFORMATION

Client MCU Site Affinity

Administrators can use the Exchange Conferencing Service MCU to define specific Microsoft Windows 2000 sites (sites without any Exchange Conferencing Services installed) as local to that MCU (this designation is also known as the "Site Affinity"). This local designation directs data conferencing participants to that particular MCU for participation.

Configuration

This Site Affinity designation is configured for each MCU. Therefore, if an MCU is "hosting" a data conference and its services are interrupted, clients that are designated as local to that MCU are not redirected to another MCU in that same site (also known as failover).

Providing Failover When Site Affinity Is Designated

To provide this sort of functionality (failover in a Site Affinity scenario), make sure that each MCU in that site designates the Windows 2000 site that does not have Exchange Conferencing Services installed as "local." This provides a failover option across multiple MCUs in the same site.
