SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to download statements in Microsoft Money, you may receive an error message that is similar to either of the following:
Money was unable to establish a secure connection to the server

-or-

Unable to establish a secure connection to the server due to a problem with security components on your machine

CAUSE

This issue can occur when the Advanced Security settings are turned on in Microsoft Internet Explorer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the following methods.

Method 1: Restore the Default Settings in Internet Explorer

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
  4. Click Restore Defaults, click Apply, and then click OK.

Method 2: Enable SSL and PCT Within Internet Explorer

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
  4. Click to select the Use SSL 2.0, Use SSL 3.0, and Use PCT 1.0 check boxes.
  5. Click Apply, and then click OK.
  6. Restart the computer and test Money.
