This article was previously published under Q312764

SYMPTOMS

When you use the BizTalk Editor, you cannot input Unicode 3.0 characters for element or attribute names. If you attempt to input a Unicode 3.0 character for an element or attribute name, you receive the following error message:
There are incorrect characters in the string "?" at the following positions
Position Nearest Valid Character Ranges

1 [0x3041-0x3094], [0X30a1-0x30fa], [0x3105-0x312c], [0x3021-0x3029]

Do you want to revert back to the original string "Record1"?

CAUSE

This problem occurs because some of the new characters that are supported by the Unicode 3.0 specification are not supported by Microsoft XML versions 3.x or 4.x.
