Error Message When You Run System Information Tool: "Cannot Display Information" (312491)

When you use the Microsoft System Information tool (Msinfo32.exe) to display system data, you may receive the following error message in the right pane of the System Information window:
Cannot Display Information
The Component which displays this information is not functioning properly, or is not present on this machine.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if the registry entries that are required for Microsoft System Information to function correctly are damaged or missing.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, manually reinstall Microsoft System Information. To do this, follow these steps:
- Insert your Microsoft Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition compact disc (CD) into your CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive.
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Run box, type the following line, and then click OK:
rundll.exe setupx.dll,InstallHinfSection Msinfo.reg 64 C:\windows\inf\msinfo.inf - Repeat step 2 and step 3 for each of the following lines:
rundll.exe setupx.dll,InstallHinfSection Msinfo2.reg 64 C:\windows\inf\msinfo.inf rundll.exe setupx.dll,InstallHinfSection CDM.base 64 C:\windows\inf\msinfo.inf rundll.exe setupx.dll,InstallHinfSection sigver.base 64 C:\windows\inf\msinfo.inf - Restart your computer.
