SYMPTOMS

When you print an Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) graphic from one of the Office X programs to a PostScript printer, the graphic is printed with a jagged appearance, or it is bitmapped, or the image is printed backwards and upside down.

CAUSE

This behavior is the result of changes in the Mac OS X operating system, which spools data to the printer differently than do earlier versions of the Mac OS. Because of this change, the PICT or bitmap graphic that is used as the EPS preview image is printed, instead of the EPS graphic.

NOTE: This behavior occurs no matter which PostScript printer or PPD file is used to print the image.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, update your system to Mac OS X 10.1. For more information, visit the following Apple Web site:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use a third-party graphics conversion utility or program to convert the EPS image to a different graphic format, and then reinsert the image into your document.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
