XL97: Excel Stop Responding When You Try to Use the Euro Symbol (312154)

SYMPTOMS

When you click the euro symbol button on the Formatting toolbar, Microsoft Excel stops responding.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you are using a version of the Euro.xla add-in that is different from the version that is listed in this article, and the default currency symbol of the computer is set to euro (€) .

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem.

The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:
NOTE: Before you apply this update, click Add-Ins on the Tools menu, and then clear the Euro Currency Tools check box. Click OK, and then quit Excel.

If the original version of the add-in is already installed on your computer, you receive the message "Euro.xla Add-in is already registered" at the end of the Setup process. Click OK in this dialog box, and then Setup ends.

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. WORKAROUND

To temporarily work around this problem, press ESC to stop the macro. This allows you to continue working in the workbook.
