OL2000: WinFax Starter Edition Does Not Send Complete Fax Message (310778)

SYMPTOMS

When you use Symantec WinFax Starter Edition to fax a message from Outlook, WinFax Starter Edition sends only a partial message.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if your modem is Fax Class 1-only. WinFax Starter Edition does not support Class 1-only modems.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, either obtain a fax software package that supports Class 1-only modems, or obtain a new modem that is compatible with Classes 0, 1, and 2.

WinFax Starter Edition comes with Outlook, to allow you to use fax functions in Outlook. A message that is composed in Outlook can be sent, forwarded, or received by fax, and you can then treat the faxed message like any other message.

To determine the Fax Class of your modem, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Modems.
  3. Click Diagnostics, and then click the number of the port to which your modem is connected.
  4. Click More Info. The computer queries the modem and then returns a response.
  5. The last line of the query, ATI+FCLASS, displays numbers that tell which Fax Class the modem is capable of using. The possible numbers are 0, 1, and 2.
