FP2000: When You Try to Insert a Component into a Web Page, the Component Command Is Not Available (310699)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft FrontPage 2000

This article was previously published under Q310699

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to insert a component into a Web page in a Microsoft FrontPage 2000 Web, the Component command may not displayed on the Insert menu.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if both of the following conditions are true:
  • You use Microsoft Word to create a Web page.

    -and-
  • You import that Web page into your FrontPage Web.
By default, FrontPage 2000 is configured to open a Web page with the Microsoft Office program in which the page was created. Therefore, when you open a Web page (for editing purposes) that was created in Microsoft Word 2000, Word is the default program used to open the page. As a result, you experience the behavior described in the "Symptoms" section of this article, because there is no Component command on the Insert menu in Word.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, configure FrontPage 2000 to open the Web page for editing in FrontPage 2000 itself. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start FrontPage 2000.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. Click the Configure Editors tab.
  4. Click to clear the Open web pages in the Office application that created them check box, and then click OK.
When you next attempt to edit a Web page, it is opened in FrontPage 2000.
