Cannot Start the UPS Service (310437)

SYMPTOMS

You are unable to configure an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). The UPS service does not start and you may receive a Dr. Watson access violation or application error message in Ups.exe.

CAUSE

This issue can occur in the following situation:
  • You upgrade a Microsoft Windows 98-based computer to Microsoft Windows 2000.
  • You upgrade that Windows 2000-based computer to Microsoft Windows XP.

RESOLUTION
