PRB: ST02 of a Functional Acknowledgement Is Always Set to 0001 (310136)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft BizTalk Server 2000
  • Microsoft BizTalk Server 2002

This article was previously published under Q310136

SYMPTOMS

The functional acknowledgments that the BizTalk Accelerator for HIPAA creates always have ST02 set to 0001.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

Because the BizTalk Accelerator for HIPAA only produces one receipt transaction in the GS-GE group for a receipt document, the value of 0001 is valid as it must be unique only within the group.

The following text is the definition for ST02 from the HIPAA implementation guide:
Identifying control number that must be unique within the transaction
set functional group assigned by the originator for a transaction set.

Note 1: The Transaction Set Control Numbers in ST02 and SE02 must be
identical. The number is assigned by the originator and must be unique
within a functional group (GS-GE). The number also aids in error
resolution. For example, start with the number 0001 and increment from
   there.
