FIX: Cannot Attach Database When You Change the Database Name and Use ENTER Key in the Attach Database Dialog Box (308746)

SYMPTOMS

When you attach database files, you can specify a different name for the database other than the original name. To specify a different name for the database, use the Attach Database dialog box in the SQL Enterprise Manager and specify the new name in the Attach As option.

After you type the new database name and you press ENTER, note that the new name does not remain in the dialog box. Instead, the name reverts to the original name of the database. Also, after you press ENTER, the OK button does not activate and control returns to the same dialog box, without attaching the database.

This problem only occurs when you press ENTER after you type the name of the database.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft SQL Server 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do not press ENTER. Instead, you can use the OK button in the dialog box and successfully attach the database.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft SQL Server 2000. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 2.
