ACC2000: "Record Is Deleted" Error Message When You Try to Open a Table, Query, Form, Report, or Data Access Page (308630)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Access 2000

This article was previously published under Q308630
Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open a table, a query, a form, a report, or a data access page in a multiuser Access 2000 database that is stored on a network, you may receive the following error message:
Record is deleted.
If the object is a table or a query, this error message may be followed by the following error message:
Msaccess can't open the table in datasheet view.
If the object is a report, you may also receive the following error messages:
Unable to carry out the command.
There was an error executing the command.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if either the object or the database is damaged. Damage can occur, for example, if two users try to modify the same record in a table, and then one of them forces Access to close by shutting down the computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, compact and repair the database:
  1. In Access 2000, on the Tools menu, point to Database Utilities, and then click Compact and Repair Database.
  2. In the Database to Compact From dialog box, locate and then click the database that is generating the error messages, and then click Compact.
  3. In the Compact Database Into dialog box, select an appropriate folder location for the new file, type a unique name for the file in the File name box, and then click Save.
