Works Suite: Error Message: Winword Caused an Exception e06d7363h in Module MSVCRT.DLL (308511)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to save a file in Microsoft Word, and Word was installed as a part of Microsoft Works Suite, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
When you click Details, you receive the following error message:
WINWORD caused an exception e06d7363h in module MSVCRT.DLL.
When you launch Microsoft Word, you receive the following error message
cannot display the enduser license agreement which must be displayed and accepted before you can use the application. To display the agreement reinstall the application.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the files in the Works Suite Add-in for Microsoft Word are corrupted or missing.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

    NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
  3. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Works Suite Add-in for Microsoft Word, and then click Add/Remove.
  4. Click Next, click Remove, click Next, and then click Remove.
  5. Click Finish.
  6. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  7. In the Named box, type Normal.dot, and then click Find Now.
  8. Right-click Normal.dot, click Rename, type Normal1.old, and then press ENTER.
  9. Close the Find dialog box.
  10. Restart the computer.

    If you receive the following error message, see the related article in the "More Information" section of this article:
    Works can not access one or more required files.
  11. Start Word, type some text, and then save the document.

    Verify that you no longer receive the error message.
  12. Insert Works Suite Disk 1 in your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
  13. Double-click My Computer, right-click the CD-ROM drive icon, and then click Explore.
  14. Double-click the WordAdd folder.
  15. Double-click the Setup.exe file.
  16. Follow the instructions on the screen to install Word from the Works Suite Add-in.
  17. Start Word, type some text, and then save the document.

    Verify that you no longer receive the error message.
If you do still receive the error message, repeat steps 1 through 10 to remove the Works Suite Add-in for Microsoft Word.
