XADM: Error c00706ab Starting Exchange System Manager (308346)

SYMPTOMS

When you start Exchange 2000 Exchange System Manager, you may receive the following error message:
The network address is invalid
c00706ab

After Exchange System Manager opens, some or all of the branches under Exchange may be missing.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the IPC$ share is missing from one or more of the global catalog servers that an Exchange 2000 server connects to.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:
  1. Go to each global catalog server, and from the root, type the following command:

    NET SHARE

  2. Look at the list of shares. If IPC$ is missing, type the following command:

    NET SHARE IPC$

  3. Run the NET SHARE command again and verify that the share has been created.
