In Microsoft FrontPage, the page label (or title) of a Web page in Navigation view determines what text is displayed on the navigation bar and the page banner title.

This article explains how to display a page banner with text that is different from the text on the navigation bar.

A page banner is a component that usually appears at the top of each page in a Web site. It employs text or image elements to display the title of the page. The text that is displayed in the page banner is the same as the title of the Web page in Navigation view. This title also determines what text is displayed on the navigation bar button for that page.

For example, if the title of your Web page in Navigation view is "My Travels," both the navigation bar button and the page banner text also display "My Travels."

If you want to customize the page banner title to display text that is different from that of the page title and navigation bar text, you must first create the page banner in an imaging program, and then insert the page banner into your Web page in FrontPage. For example, use this method if you want to change your page banner title to "My Travels in Europe and Asia," but you want the navigation bar to be displayed as "My Travels."

Customize the Page Banner Title

To do this, follow these steps:

1. Start FrontPage, and then open your Web in Page view.
2. Under Folder List, double-click the page for which you want to customize the banner.
3. Remove the shared border from the top of the page:
   1. Right-click the page banner, and then click Shared Borders.
   2. Under Apply to, click Current Page, and then click to clear the Top check box.
4. Create a shared border at the left side of the page. To do this, click Current Page under Apply to, click to select the Left check box, and then click OK.
5. Create a navigation bar in the shared border at the left side of the page:
   1. Click inside the shared border, and then click Navigation Bar on the Insert menu.
   2. Under Hyperlinks to add to page, select the type of hyperlinks that you want on the navigation bar.
   3. Under Orientation and appearance, specify whether you want the navigation bar to be horizontal or vertical, and whether you want it to display text or buttons. Click OK.
6. Position the insertion point at the top of the page on which you want to place the page banner.
7. On the Table menu, point to Insert, and then click Table.
8. In the Insert Table dialog box, specify a value of 1 in the Row and Column boxes, and then click OK.
9. In an imaging program, create a page banner, and then use text overlay to insert the text that you want to display on it.
10. Insert the page banner into the table that you created at the top of your Web page in steps 7 and 8.
