This article was previously published under Q308214 SYMPTOMS
When the SCSI port driver (the Scsiport.sys file) makes a memory allocation request, your computer may stop responding (hang) or the Memory Manager may quit, and you receive the following error on a blue screen:
Stop 0x000000D8 DRIVER_USED_EXCESSIVE_PTES
This behavior may occur if the Scsiport.sys file is used in conjunction with the Compaq array miniport driver for SCSI devices.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the Compaq miniport driver allocates and frees the memory descriptor lists many times, resulting in fragmentation of the page table entries (PTEs). When a driver requests memory allocation, the Memory Manager cannot allocate a contiguous block of memory. If the driver (the Scsiport.sys file) cannot recover or cannot handle a limited resource condition, the Memory Manager quits and an error occurs.
