PRB: Windows XP OOBE Cannot Determine Your Network Configuration (307979)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
This article was previously published under Q307979 SYMPTOMS
Windows XP Out of Box Experience (OOBE) gives end users the opportunity to set up their network connection. Initially, this functionality may not work correctly, and users may be asked to configure their network after OOBE has completed. End users receive the following error message:
Windows was unable to determine which Network Connection to use for Internet Access.
CAUSE
If the computer contains more than one network card or one network card and one 1394 Card, OOBE may not be able to determine which adapter is used for a connection to the Internet. As a result, OOBE may ask users to manually configure their network after OOBE has completed.
RESOLUTION
After Windows Out of Box Experience (OOBE) has completed, follow these steps to set up your networking configuration:
- Open Control Panel from the Windows Start menu.
- Double-click Network and Internet Connections.
- Click Setup to change your home or small office network.
