SUMMARY

As of November 2001, support is limited for Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2000 agents that are part of a workgroup but that are not in a domain.

MORE INFORMATION

Agents in a workgroup can not be automatically installed by the Agent Manager of the MOM Server. This is because a domain account is used by the Agent Manager to install and scan agents. As the agents in a workgroup do not have any security associations with the domain accounts, there is no way to automatically manage these agents.

You can install agents in the workgroup environment through the manual installation process that is described in Appendix D of the MOM Installation Guide. After you install the agent, the computer must be associated with the appropriate computer groups. This allows the rules to be applied to that agent.

Any updates to agent software such as hot fixes or service packs need to be manually applied to these agents.
