Play Artist, Play Genre, and Play Playlist Voice Commands Do Not Play Audio Content (307678)

SYMPTOMS

When you issue a voice command in Microsoft Plus! Voice Command for Windows Media Player that instructs Microsoft Windows Media Player to play a playlist, a song by a particular artist, or songs from a particular genre, you may receive one of the following error messages on the Language bar:
Artist not recognized

-or-

Genre not recognized

-or-

Playlist not recognized
This behavior occurs even though your Media Library contains the particular playlist, songs by that particular artist, or songs in that particular genre.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if both of the following conditions are true:
  • You add a new artist, genre, or playlist to your Media Library in Windows Media Player.

    -and-
  • You attempt to play the new playlist, artist, or genre by issuing one of the following voice commands (as applicable)

    Media Player, play artist artist name

    -or-

    Media Player, play genre genre name

    -or-

    Media Player, play playlist playlist name

    where artist name, genre name, and playlist name are the names of the new artist, genre, or playlist that you added to your Media Library.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, quit and then restart Windows Media Player. After you restart Windows Media Player, you can issue voice commands to play the new artist, genre, or playlist that you added to your Media Library in Windows Media Player.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
