SYMPTOMS

When you run Microsoft Mobile Information Server Setup with the /vForestPrep=1 switch, you may receive the following error message:
Internal Error 2740. IsDCLogon, -2147023541

CAUSE

This error message indicates that the domain name does not exist or cannot be found. This behavior can occur if you attempt to run Setup on a computer that is not part of a domain.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, verify that your server has a valid machine account in the given domain, and that you are logged on as a user with Schema Administrator and Domain Administrator privileges to Active Directory in your forest.
