OL2002: Keyboard Driver Switches Language Country (307437)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

This article was previously published under Q307437

SYMPTOMS

When you create a new item in Outlook 2002, the keyboard switches country settings for the language; for example English (U.K.) to English (U.S.) or French (Canada) to French (France).

NOTE: These language keyboard drivers for different countries are not identical even though the language is the same. For example, when you press SHIFT+3, you get the number sign (#) with the English (U.S.) keyboard driver and the Pound Sterling currency sign with the English (U.K.) keyboard driver.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when both of the following conditions are true:
  • The keyboard drivers for English (U.S.) and English (U.K.) are both installed on the computer.
  • Language support for at least one right-to-left language (for example, Arabic or Hebrew) is activated in Microsoft Office XP.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, deactivate one of the multiple country language keyboard drivers, or deactivate language support for the right-to-left language in Office XP.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
