The version of Windows Messenger that comes with Windows XP and all versions of MSN Messenger later than 3.0.0286 support Passport accounts for all e-mail addresses. This includes support for addresses that contain a period, for example FirstName.LastName@employer.com.

If you are using MSN Messenger version 3.0.0286 or earlier, you cannot sign in if your Passport sign-in name contains a period. To determine which version of Messenger you are using, in MSN Messenger, click Help, and then click About MSN Messenger Service.
