"The File Epatap2k.sys Is Corrupted" Error Message During Upgrade from Windows 2000 (307161)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to upgrade from Windows 2000 to Windows XP on a computer that has an OnStream DP30 tape drive, the following error message may appear:
The file Epatap2k.sys is corrupted

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because of a problem in the OnStream DP30 device driver.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, contact the manufacturer of the tape drive to obtain an updated device driver. Visit the OnStream Data Web site at:

http://www.onstream.com/

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, remove the tape drive from the computer:
  1. Unplug the OnStream DP30 tape drive from your computer's parallel port.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Tape Devices.
  3. On the Drivers tab, click the OnStream DP30 device driver, and then click Remove.
  4. Restart the computer.
  5. Proceed with the upgrade to Windows XP.
