Your Adaptec AVA-1502E ISA SCSI Controller Does Not Work After You Upgrade from Windows 98 or Windows Me to Windows XP (307043)

SYMPTOMS

On a computer that has an Adaptec AVA-1502E ISA SCSI controller and an Iomega SCSI Zip drive installed, there may be no driver listed for the Adaptec controller after you upgrade to Windows XP. As a result, the controller does not work, and you may not be able to use the Zip drive.

This issue can occur after you upgrade the computer from Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me).

RESOLUTION

NOTE: Microsoft does not support the following workaround, although the workaround may correct this issue.

To work around this issue, first specify a different SCSI controller. Follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Printers and Other Hardware.
  2. Click Add Hardware, and then click Next.
  3. Click Yes, I have already connected the hardware, and then click Next.
  4. Click Add a new hardware device, and then click Next.
  5. Click Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced), and then click Next.
  6. Click SCSI and RAID controllers, and then click Next.
  7. Click Adaptec AHA-151X/AHA-152X or AIC-6260/IAC-6360 SCSI Host Adapter (non-PnP), and then click Next.
  8. Click Next, and then click Finish.
Then manually set the resources for the SCSI controller. Follow these steps:
  1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
  3. Click the plus sign (+) next to SCSI and RAID Controllers.
  4. Right-click the Adaptec AHA-151X/AHA-152X or AIC-6260/IAC-6360 SCSI Host Adapter (non-PnP) device, and then click Properties.
  5. Click the Resources tab, and then click Set configuration manually.
  6. Click the I/O range, and then click Change Setting.
  7. Select a value that does not have a conflict, and then click OK.
  8. Click the IRQ, and then click Change Setting.
  9. Select a value that does not have a conflict, and then click OK.
  10. Click OK, and then click Yes to restart the computer.
