FTP Session May Stop Responding If the Connection to the FTP Server Fails When You Use InternetWriteFile (306994)

SYMPTOMS

If a program uses the WinInet API InternetWriteFile function and the connection fails at the server during the file transfer, you may not be able to close the file handle to the FTP server.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Internet Explorer 5.5 service pack that contains this hotfix.
