The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

This article was previously published under Q306919

SYMPTOMS

When you are performing a clean installation of Windows 2000 to a clean hard disk on a computer that has an ABIT BE6-II motherboard and a Highpoint ATA66 controller, you may encounter difficulties during installation. Specifically, when you need to select a drive or partition for the Windows 2000 installation, no drives are listed.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Windows 2000 contains only the drivers for the Promise ATA66 Controller.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, download the drivers for the Highpoint ATA66 controller onto a floppy disk. Visit the following ABIT FTP site: During the installation, when you are prompted for third-party drivers, press F6 to have Windows 2000 use the Highpoint ATA66 drivers instead of the default Promise ATA66 drivers.
